Accelerate Action This Women’s Day: Demand Real Change

It has been said that, “women do two-thirds of the world’s work, yet they receive only 10% of the world’s income and own less than 1% of global property.” And at the current pace, true gender equity won’t be achieved until 2158—more than a century from now. This reality is not just disappointing; it is a moral failure of the global community and a direct barrier to progress. Waiting is not an option. We must accelerate action—not just for women, but for a more just and equitable world.

The Unseen Burden of Women’s Work

From boardrooms to factories, from agricultural fields to household kitchens, from laboratory to the classroom, women keep the world running, yet their contributions remain undervalued. This inequality is not just about wages or property ownership—it’s about deep-rooted social norms that systematically restrict women’s progress.

  • Women often work longer hours than men, balancing both paid and unpaid labor.

  • They take on the majority of caregiving responsibilities, often without recognition or compensation.

  • They lack equal access to financial resources, education, and leadership opportunities, slowing down their empowerment.

Gradual Change is a lie

If we continue at the current rate, we will force generations of women to endure the same struggles we face today. This is unacceptable. Change must happen now, and it must happen at an accelerated pace.

  • The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognize gender equality as a fundamental pillar of global progress. Among 17 goals there is a goal-SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. However, without urgent action, these goals will remain distant dreams rather than tangible realities.

The Path Forward: Actions We Must Take Today

  1. Economic Empowerment:

Women must have equal access to jobs, entrepreneurship opportunities, and financial independence. Governments and businesses must terminate the gender pay gap and ensure women have equal representation in leadership roles.

  1. Legal and Institutional Reforms:

Gender discrimination should not just be condemned—it should be illegal and punishable. Laws protecting women’s rights must be enforced strictly, and policies should focus on equal property rights, maternity benefits, and workplace safety.

  1. Breaking Stereotypes in Work and Society:

We need to dismantle the narrative that women’s contributions are secondary. Whether in tech, politics, or caregiving, women’s work is valuable and should be recognized. More women need to be in STEM fields, governance, and corporate leadership to ensure diverse decision-making.

  1. Changing Mindsets and Raising Awareness:

Education plays a key role in breaking centuries-old biases. Schools and media must promote positive gender narratives, teaching both boys and girls about equality, respect, and shared responsibilities.

  1. Involving Men as Allies:

Gender equality is not just a women’s issue—it is a human issue. Men must be active allies, advocating for women’s rights, sharing domestic responsibilities, and calling out gender bias in workplaces and communities.

A Future Where Women No Longer Have to “Prove” Themselves

Women have spent centuries fighting for recognition, fairness, and respect. But in a truly equal world, they shouldn’t have to fight for what should be theirs by right. If we accelerate action today, future generations won’t inherit the same struggles.

A world that empowers women is a world that thrives. We want a a future where justice prevails for all women. Let’s ensure we don’t wait until 2158. The time for action is now.

This Women’s Day, let’s not just celebrate—let’s accelerate change.
