World Water Day Competition Ceremony 2023
Months-long programs undertaken to raise water related awareness among today’s students and youth came to an end with the award giving ceremony of World Water Day Competition 2023, held in the International Training Network Center (ITN), BUET on March 18th, 2023. The program spanned from 10.am to 12.25am . Awards were distributed among the winners in the presence of selected Contestants, student ambassadors, guardians, volunteers and other invited guests. Special guests present at the ceremony included Mr. SM Tarikuzzaman (Director, Partnership and sponsor Bangladesh Youth Parliament for Water, and regional WASH specialist, Asia Pacific at plan international; Dr. Ferdous Sarwar (Professor and head at the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology); Mr. Mustafizur Rahman ( Business Development Advisor and team lead , Dutch Fund for Climate and Development SNV Netherlands Development Organisation,Bangladesh) and finally, Ms. Nayoka Martinez Backstrom, (the first Secretary, Development Corporation Section, Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka.)
This World Water Day competition was organised as a joint venture between House of Volunteers foundation Bangladesh (HOV) and Bangladesh Youth Parliament for Water, with Unicef and ITN – BUET as strategic partners. Miaki and Estex were, respectively, the technology and technical partners. And bdnews24.com along with Bonik barta were the media partners.
Major activities undertaken for the World Water Day were a painting competition and a Photography competition accompanied by exhibition, Social media awareness campaign and quizzes. The theme of this year’s painting competition was – “Save water” and the number of submitted paintings were 368. The eligible age group was between 8-16. Whereas the theme of the photography competition was “Climate change’s effect on water”. 150 photographs were submitted and the eligibility range was between 15-30.
