Let`s Meet SJWPBD season8 Winner Shegufta Mehjabeen
The winner of Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize is announced. Shegufta Mehjabeen, student of Adamjee Cantonment College, is elected as the champion for the National round. She will bear the flag of Bangladesh in the International stage of Stockholm Junior Water Prize. The final round of the 8th season of Stockholm Junior Water Prize Bangladesh (SJWPBD) – 2022 held on the 13th May, 2022 at ITN Seminar Room, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). ‘Inspiring Today’s Students, Improving Tomorrow’s Water’, the tagline of the season says it all about the importance of the intervention of youth to improve water. From all over the country, the season got Its top 10 Finalists for the final pitching round. For the final phase, a versatile jury board was bestowed with the judgement throughout the ceremony. The honorable jury board was comprised with Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Director, ITN, BUET, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, BUET, Dr. Ferdous Sarwar, Professor, Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, BUET, Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan, Executive Director, BEXIMCO Health and PPE, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, Md Tahmidul Islam, Technical Advisor – WASH at WaterAid Bangladesh, Suman Kanti Nath, Project Officer, Agence française de développement (AFD), Nargis Akter, WASH Project Officer at UNICEF Bangladesh and Martinez-Bäckström First Secretary, Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The presence of every jury panel member encouraged the students all the way out.
The finalists presented visual posters and took part in the pitching round. The round was impeccable and the presentations were spontaneous as well. On this note, Dr Mohidus Samad Khan remarked ” The more the seasons are passing, the more the participants are generating strong ideas.This was a tough call for the judges to ascertain who is not doing well” The present jury panel highly applauded the event and the participation from all over the country. Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, Martinez-Backstrom put up some words about the event, ” We really appreciate the participants for enlightening us with their thoughts. If it was possible, we could have invited all participants to Sweden as none of the ideas is less remarkable”
After the launching of the 8th season of SJWPBD 2022 last December, the competition received a huge response from all over the country. 21 project papers were selected initially after screening. Onwards, the competitive process selected 10 teams for the final cohort.
This research-based science competition finds the title holder of champion basing on the aspects of the solution’s feasibility, innovative thinking and economical prospects on local, national or global context. The event aims at extracting the potential ideas among the youth aged 15-20. The regional Champion of Shegufta , SJWPBD 2022, will obtain an opportunity to represent Bangladesh with 40 other countries at an international platform Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP), held in the month of August in Sweden.
The final program was a great triumph with the spontaneous presence of the participants, guardians, volunteers and audience. House of Volunteers Foundation Bangladesh is the key organizer of the event in Bangladesh nominated by SJWP. Alongside, Water-Aid Bangladesh joined throughout the season as the co-organizer. Nestle Bangladesh Limited sponsored the season. The technical, technological and media partners were respectively ESTex, Miaki and BDNews24.com.
